About the designer
Philip Behrens was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in the early 1970's. He received a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University and a Gesellen Brief, Holzmechaniker from the Industrie und Handelskammer, Hannover, Germany. In 1995, Behrens founded Natura Designs Inc. in the belief that mass production and beauty are not mutually exclusive. Behrens has received various design excellence awards and lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Using only first quality teak farmed on established plantations in Indonesia, Rock Wood has grown to prominence by offering craftsmanship, uncompromising quality and design excellence. Strict adherence to high social and environmental standards is a cornerstone of the company's long term commitment to this end.

Each piece of furniture is kiln dried to ensure that there is little movement and that all joinery holds fast and stays tight for a lifetime. They use machine-cut mortise-and-tenon joinery, weather resistant glues and solid stainless steel or brass hardware.
