About the tree
This broadleaf evergreen tree is native to Australia, particularly the South-west region. It can grow to be over one hundred feet tall. Jarrah has a straight trunk, with a thick gray colored bark which the tree sheds. The tree is often recognized by this distinctive bark, as it has deep vertical grooves Dark green leave are found in clusters of 7 to 11, with white flowers similar to those that the teak tree blooms. These flowers usually bloom during the spring, or even early summer.

Another name for Jarrah is Swan River mahogany.

Its genus is Eucalyptus.

Jarrah suffers from a nasty root rot fungus called Phytophthora cinnamomi.

Jarrah was used to pave the roads in cities such as London and Berlin.

About the wood

Many of the visitors that come to Australia cannot leave without a piece of this beautiful wood. It grows in many different colors, ranging from a light pink, to a dark brown. The darker the color is, the older the wood. The heartwood of jarrah has a swirling pattern with a rich, deep reddish-brown color.

Jarrah has been used for centuries in building and furniture making. The trees are also used as a source of honey. It's rich color, and resistant qualities have made this a favorite for flooring, ceilings, and paneling.

As Outdoor Furniture

One of the best features about jarrah is it's excellent durability. It is also both termite-, and rot-resistant. Jarrah is an amazing wood in looks and strength. When the wood has weathered, the surface naturally oxidizes into a beautiful silver-gray color. The gray color is only on the surface though - the deep red color remains below the weathered surface.
